Advice Based on Experience

Trek Solo exists because so much solo travel content is written for gap-year backpackers, not experienced travellers with opinions, budgets, and 'just-tell-me' needs.

I'm Patrick. I've navigated 65+ countries solo over 15+ years. I'm not a digital nomad influencer. I'm a seasoned independent traveller who designs his own itineraries, books his own accommodation, and has strong opinions about what's worth your time and money.

Before travel became my focus, I had a career in touring as a musician and over 20 years in IT. My creative and techie background shows up in how I approach travel planning: creative ideation, tempered by attention to logistics, and with low tolerance for vague advice!

This site shares practical intelligence: destination notes, booking strategies, solo-specific logistics, and honest perspectives. No "wanderlust" manifestos. No essays on eating alone. Just useful information from someone who's been there.

The Network

Trek Solo is part of the Independent Travel Guides network by Patrick Hughes. The sister sites cover complementary travel niches:

The Solo Dispatch

New guides, honest reviews, and the occasional rant about airline pricing. Delivered when I have something worth saying.
